Welcome to Jessie's world of handmade, quirky and fun accessories! I use recycled materials to create colourful felt hair-clips and brooches. I have a range of iphone covers, greeting cards - printed on 100% recycled paper- and some sweet button earrings.
Visit my stall at the Southbank Young Designer's Markets. I'm also a very proud member of BrisStyle.
Check out my online Etsy store or browse my blog below for inspiring bits and pieces!
I write about food too - look out for the Jessiedex!
Hope you have managed to stay out this terrible weather! Here's to a dry one tomorrow night for my last market of the year!
The BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets in Brisbane's CBD have become renowned for being "Brisbane's HOTtest destination for everything "handmade" under the stars", promoting local indie artists and bringing to the city the most fashionable, hip and quirky wares that revive traditional crafts with a decidedly contemporary feel.
The December 17 Christmas Market is set to evoke those nostalgic and traditional memories from the Queensland Christmases and Summer Holidays of everyone's childhoods and will be a night of entertainment and Christmas cheer for all the family.
The City centre will provide the perfect setting to showcase the talented local designers BrisStyle, with marketeers setting up their lantern-lit stalls beneath the King George Square's statuesque Christmas tree and down into Albert Street and around into the hip Burnett Lane precinct.
In particular, Burnett Lane will turn on its own quirky and unique brand of Christmas magic with edgy designers as well as local indie performers. A video Installation will be projected onto the walls of the Laneway depicting the Handmade Holiday theme which will capture the quirky Christmas memories of days gone by.
The big band sounds of the
"Brisbane Excelsior Band" Australasia's premier brass band will fill King George Square with the sounds of Christmas while the Allstar Jazz trio and street performers roam through the crowds.
The Markets will be supporting the Lord Mayor's Community Trust with a Christmas Hamper full of gorgeous handmade wares donated by all the stallholders with councilor Fiona King drawing the winning ticket on the night.
We'll be moved to undercover above Groove Train, so do pop by rain hail or shine! :D
Hope to see you there!
I wanted to share this new cafe find in Woolloongabba! It's in the Woolloongabba Antique Centre (22 Wellington Rd, Woolloongabba QLD 4102 (07) 3392 1114), which is fantastic in itself! So many great bits and bobs everywhere and it's huge! I could spend hours there!
This is the cute cafe all set up for Christmas. I love all the different sets of colourful tables and chairs!
Me drinking chai tea from my "house" teapot!
A cauliflower teapot!
Corn salt and pepper shakers! so cute!
And this is....
The hideous wet, rainy weather that is plaguing Brisbane currently, thanks to El Nina. It also prevented me from attending the last Young Designer's market of the year on Sunday! So upset... this was because of the drenching I got while set up at the BrisStyle Indie Markets on Saturday. My stock got damaged, so it was a bit of a sad affair... Such is the life of a marketeer, though..! At the mercy of the elements..
Enough of the depressing rain.....here's to a wonderful Christmas and a successful 2011 for you. Enjoy the break!
bacon and eggs on toast.. on a brooch! A very popular design :D
"El dia do los muertos" brooch. I'd love to experience this Latin American holiday
The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration occurs on November 2 in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. Due to occurring shortly after Halloween, the Day of the Dead is sometimes thought to be a similar holiday, although the two actually have little in common. The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration, where partying and eating is common. (source: wikipedia)
A French poodle. Oui Oui!
The cat from my greeting card... but on a brooch!
Cute woodland deer
Cat in a hat...on a brooch! I also have created "green eggs and ham"! I'm a fan of this one.. and Dr Seuss in general. What imagination! Did you know that March 2nd is his birthday? Now you do!
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” - Dr Seuss.
This Etsy store, Farouche has some cute and fun posters (and more) for sale :) I love this one!
2. Mexican food!!
The real good authentic version... so yummy! I've cooked it twice this week already- corn tortillas with the lot and then tortilla salad with the left overs the next night! Delicious!
and how many crafty fans are getting their favourite artists images tattooed on them! Like English artist, Gemma Correll and her examples below. Very cool. That reminds me...I need to get my sister to finish the image for my tattoo....
4. Spring! it really has sprung for me this year... one minute, the garden is bare, the next, the trees are blooming with flowers and the lawn is out of control! hahahaha!
Your support, love and kindness is never ending... I am so grateful. Thank you for being you xxx
Hello! I am still alive! It's been ages (over a month?!?) since my last post and it is only til this moment that I have been able to head to my blog and post something! Whoops!!! but with a legitimate reason/s!!!
I been managing the cafe that I work at while the current manager is on holidays. It has been very hectic as we are short staffed and I have been trying to do all the extra jobs!!
I have also been busy with custom orders which are just about done :D Yay! And I am planning another Etsy photo shoot so I can update my online store. Phew! Plus add in a weekend away in Sydney and that's where my time has gone! It passes so quickly doesn't it?
And now for something that I didn't think I would be blogging about any time soon: Martial Arts and Bruce Lee!!
This post was inspired a documentary that I saw last night called "How Bruce Lee changed the world". I had no idea that he was such an amazing philosopher on top of being a super human athlete in mixed martial arts. AND he created his own form of martial arts called Jeet kune do which is practiced all over the world!! I am going to search out his book called the Tao of Jeet kune do as I am really fascinated by his philosophies and quotes. My favourite at the moment is:
Ever since I was a child I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one's potential.Bruce Lee
It's the Young Designer's twilight markets tonight in conjunction with the Mercedes Benz fashion week and what a great evening for it! Thanks RAIN! hahaha I really hope this weather eases off so lots of people will come out to see a plethora of Brisbane's talented designers, myself included! :P I have lots of new brooches to show, including a German sausage and a stack of pancakes! yum yum!
It starts from 5pm and will conclude at 10pm. I hope to see you there amongst the twinkling lights that will adorn the marquees... oohhhh pretty! :D
I had an amazing time at the Bris-style Twilight Markets last night! There were so many fabulous people who came down to King George Square to check all the hand made goodies from the many talented Brisbane designers. A huge thank to those of you who stopped by and purchased your very own GBC original... or even commissioned your own brooch, while jumping up and down and crying out with glee! Yes I'm talking about you, Dana and Annabelle! You are both awesome! :D I will have more breakfast based accessories for you to swoon over in the coming weeks! And your fruit loops brooch and french toast will be ready for the Young Designer's Market tomorrow :D
Another huge thank you goes to the team behind Bris-style (esp. Helen and Bel) who did an amazing job in preparation for last night! Thank you so very much! I had a blast and am very happy to be apart of this wonderful Etsy Street Team!
Now to make so more goodies for the YDM tomorrow! See you there x
